Musee Escoffier de l'Art Culinaire, Villeneuve Loubet
Museum of Culinary Art in this historic town
This museum was set up by outstanding chef Auguste Escoffier who worked as head chef at the Savoy in London. He founded this museum which is dedicated to culinary art.
Located in his birthplace and fortunately preserved, it has been recently restored with care and taste, and is the jewel in the history of French gastronomy. The Foundation invites you to rediscover this museum today and learn about Auguste Escoffier, the father of the modern kitchen and ambassador for French cuisine!
Escoffier invented many French classic dishes such as the peach Melba or Melba toast in honour of the Australian singer Nellie Melba, as well as the strawberries a la Sarah Bernhardt.
There are lots of interesting exhibits including beautiful cakes, icing flowers and other impressive creations. There are also tasting available and guided tours upon request.

Visitor comments
- "Lovely little museum, fascinating exhibition and lots of information. The charming lady in charge explained where to find everything and left us to enjoy at our own pace. Highly recommended!" - Trip Advisor
- "The Musee Escoffier (Musee d' Art Culinaire) in Villeneuve Loubet is a real discovery. It is a fascinating small museum dedicated to the love of French food and in particular to one of its founding fathers, Escoffier. Somewhat difficult to find, (park across the river, walk over the bridge, and up into the heart of the old village) but having found it, it is real treasure. The bubbly, vivacious manager, Julie, (with excellent English) will take you slowly through the museum's three floors.
If you fancy a day away from the Riviera's other main artistic highlights a visit to the Musee Escoffier is both very different and very rewarding" - Trip Advisor - "This is a delightful museum, as it is the home of Escoffier, the "father of French cooking"! With a history of serving the rich and famous, Escoffier set many standards for famous cooks all over the world. Easiest way to get there is by Bus 500 from Nice or Grasse. Greeter was very cordial and helpful. In July and August they do serve Peach Melba, named after famous opera singer, which Escoffier first served." - Trip Advisor
